About me
Hello! I'm Marjory (although I also go by "MJ") and I provide manual driving lessons. I live in Glasgow Southside with my long-term partner and our one-eyed rescue cat, Captain. My family and friends have described me as patient, empathetic, creative, and also "a massive nerd".
I grew up in Renfrewshire, just outside Johnstone. I've lived in the greater Glasgow area my whole life, been driving in it since I was 17, and I'm delighted to provide driving tuition all across Glasgow Southside.
I've always loved understanding road systems, signs and procedures ("driving lore", you might say) and I am passionate about road safety. Why I became a driving instructor.
I really enjoy handcrafts such as sewing, knitting and crochet, and for years I helped friends and family learn these skills in an informal way. Then, in 2024 I began volunteering in a local community group, tutoring women who were looking to learn to sew using a sewing machine, and I really loved helping my learners build up their skills and knowledge, but most importantly their confidence and self belief!
Several of the ladies I tutored asked if I was a teacher because of my calm and supportive demeanor, and I realised that this style of teaching (which I later discovered was called "learner-centered teaching") was something I really wanted to pursue as a career. Driving instruction was the perfect way to combine my love of one-on-one teaching and my passion for driving, road systems, and road safety.
My approach to Teaching
Driving is a really useful life-skill, whether you plan to own a car or not. It teaches patience, perception, situational awareness/risk assessment, communication, leadership and decision making, and can open up a world of freedom, independence and opportunities. I remember how nervous I was at 17 before my first ever driving lesson, and how I grew in confidence over the course of my training until driving became a comfortable and happy activity for me. It's my goal to help you develop that same confidence and happiness behind the wheel, and to become a safe driver for life.
Whether you're learning to drive from scratch, or a full-license holder who wants to refresh skills or build up confidence driving in a new area, I'll put you at the centre and help you to achieve your driving goals.
Lessons with me will be calm and supportive, with a focus on achieving specific and structured goals to help you build up your skills, knowledge and confidence. Each lesson and goal we work on together will build upon the last, as you progress from a beginner to a competent, confident driver at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable for you.
The LDC workbook and materials I use explain all the different aspects of driving and how they fit together, so you will always be able to know where you are in your journey, what we're going to be working on next, and how far you have come. In short, you'll be the one in charge of your journey from learner to confident license holder!
I don't just want to prepare you to pass your test, but to be a safe, independent and confident driver for life. As well as teaching you motor skills and road knowledge, I'll help you develop good judgement and perception of other road users so that no matter what you encounter behind the wheel, you'll be able to manage the situation in a calm, confident way to maximise safety for yourself and everyone else on the road.
Training and Professional Development
I am currently working as a PDI (trainee driving instructor) on a Trainee License, gaining structured experience towards becoming a fully qualified Government Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). I receive ongoing training and support from an ORDIT-registered LDC instructor trainer. I teach using the LD System, which provides a structured but flexible approach to learning, tailored to you as an individual and how you learn best.
As a driving instructor operating in Scotland, I have undergone a PVG check. I have also completed the NSPCC safeguarding course "Keeping 16 to 25 year old safe from abuse".
Get in touchIf you've read this far, thank you! My goal is to make driving as accessible as possible to as many people as possible, so if you think I could be the right instructor for you, feel free to drop me a call, text, or fill out the enquiry form. I'd be thrilled to provide tuition and support for you as you develop your driving skills and confidence.
